Alex Bregman Should be The New Face of MLB

"I want to be the LeBron James of Baseball" - Alex Bregman

Last Tuesday, Alex Bregman became a very rich man.  Bregman and the Houston Astros agreed to a 6-year extension for $100 million dollars.  The deal will cover the remaining three years of arbitration-eligibility and then the first two years of potential free agency.  The contract is the second highest in Astros history behind the $151 million dollar extension second baseman Jose Altuve signed a year ago.

Bregman, who will turn 25 later this month, will now be on the hot corner for the Astros through 2024.  The former #2 selection in the MLB draft was selected by the Astros as a compensation pick due to the Astros failing to come to terms with starting pitcher Brady Aiken the year prior.

Bregman absolutely broke out in 2018, hitting .286 with 31 homeruns, 103 RBI and 51 doubles.  The Bregman contract comes on the heels of him and adidas agreeing to a multiyear partnership earlier in the day.  Bregman will join the adidas family and will be featured in upcoming adidas brand marketing campaigns.

Embrace the past in Retro-Style with Cooperstown Collection jerseys and apparel from"adidas is both an inspirational and aspirational brand.  I love how they challenge the status quo, embrace and empower creativity, and how they live at the intersection of sports and culture" said Bregman.  After making his debut in 2016, Bregman has done nothing but rake at the Major League level.

Bregman won a gold medal in the 2017 World Baseball Classic and was on the Astros team that won the World Series in seven games over the Los Angeles Dodgers.  Bregman was the 2018 MLB All-Star Game MVP and had career highs in offensive categories.

Bregman has the contract, he has the partnership with adidas, now it's time to become the face of Major League Baseball.

He is one of the games biggest and brightest young stars.  Major League Baseball needs Bregman's personality.  Speaking of personality, Bregman has shown he isn't afraid to be a voice in baseball and stir the pot.  A few months ago Bregman was interviewed on the Going Deep show with Chad & JT saying "There's no other city that I would like to beat than Boston."  The Red Sox derailed the Astros from repeating as World Series Champions last year.

So what's next for Alex Bregman?  One thing is for certain, he wants to be great.  Bregman eats, breathes and sleeps the sport.  The dude is a stud and he plays the game the right way.  He gives back to baseball and it's fans too.  Back in February, Bregman saw a video of a 9-year old swinging on Twitter.  Bregman commented on young Jax Nystrom's video by saying "great swing."  During Spring Training the youngster got on a flight from Atlanta to Florida and took some swings with Bregman.  Bregman made a memory with a fan, and baseball needs more of this.

Bregman for now is the face of the Astros.  He joins Mike Trout, Nolan Arenado, Bryce Harper and Manny Machado as players who got paid this offseason.  Trout may have signed the biggest contract in MLB history, and is arguably the best player in the game, but he hasn't won when it counts.  He also doesn't want the spotlight, he just goes about his business.

Recognition comes with greatness, attention and with winning - just ask Tom Brady.  Bregman is checking those boxes.

Bregman demands excellence from himself and he "wants to be the LeBron James of baseball."  James is the face of the NBA and is arguably the best athlete on the planet.  While he isn't the talent that King James is from a basketball perspective, he is on his way to becoming the face of Major League Baseball.
