Bruins Roll Over The "Canes"

SHARE:

Well, at this point we have heard all of the jokes and criticisms of the Bruins’ Eastern Conference opponent the Carolina Hurricanes.  The Bruins smashed the Hurricanes over the course of four games to complete the rare Conference Final sweep.  After two hard fought and dramatic series against the Maple Leafs and Blue Jackets, this series almost felt like a series of Exhibition Games.  Boston even felt comfortable enough to rest their captain, Zdeno Chara, who still skated with the team in full equipment to claim the Conference Championship trophy.

The Bruins now have the advantage of kicking back after a long season and taking in a week and a half of rest as Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals will be played Monday May 27th.
The St. Louis Blues and the San Jose Sharks continue to battle it out with one another as the series is currently tied 2-2.  The Bruins can only hope that these two teams will continue to play fast and hit hard as they wear away at one another.

Boston Bruins Eastern Conference Champs GearBruins players will certainly not reveal who they would rather play, however an interesting storyline could emerge if the Sharks make their way out of the Western Conference.  Seasoned veteran, Joe Thornton continues to search for his first Stanley Cup.  “Jumbo Joe”, a fan favorite while in Boston, will have to go through the team that drafted him if he is to lift Lord Stanley’s Cup over his head in 2019.

The Bruins have been hockey’s juggernaut over the last month and will be the favorite in Las Vegas regardless of opponent.  With the home ice advantage, it appears that the Bruins have everything going for them as the NHL season wraps up.  Sweeping the Hurricanes has left some Bruins fans feeling nervous about shutting the team down for over ten days.  Tuukka Rask has been playing out of his mind and has stolen a few games for Boston.  This was exactly what the team needed out of the former Vezina Trophy winner.  Rask is trying desperately to prove that he is an elite goaltender that can finish the job.  Hopefully, the time off is used for rest and Boston will not miss a beat as they head into the fight for hockey’s greatest prize.

Further good news for the B’s includes the reemergence of Boston’s top line.  Patrice Bergeron tallied two goals in the series clincher against Carolina.  While it had been enjoyable watching the other lines step up for the sake of the Cup it will be important that Bergeron, Brad Marchand, and David Pastrnak are firing on all cylinders.

Regardless of the opponent in the Finals look for Head Coach Bruce Cassidy to strike up a strong game plan.  Cassidy deserves to be in the conversation for Coach of the Year as he continues to impress the city of Boston.  Cassidy, in his second full year with the team, continues to work well with a core of veterans while bringing youthful players into the mix.  Cassidy may also be attributed with finally finding the perfect combination of games to not burn out Rask.

Stay tuned for a full Stanley Cup preview from Boston Sports Syndicate once the Bruins have found their date for the big dance.  In the meantime, catch up on some sleep as there have been many late nights in Boston over the course of the playoffs.
