Red Sox Welcome Nolan Arenado and the Rockies to Fenway

The Red Sox will begin a two-game series against the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night at Fenway Park, where ace Chris Sale will look to continue his stretch of dominance on the mound.  In Sale’s last outing the tall lanky lefty struck out 14 Baltimore Orioles batters and allowed only three hits over eight innings of work.  After Sale’s dumpster fire start of the season, he now has a 1.73 ERA in his last four starts.

When the Rockies come to Fenway for this brief two-game cup of coffee series, as a Red Sox fan, you’ll be able to watch an absolute stud take the field in Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado.  Arenado is coming off an off-season where he signed an eight-year, $260 million dollar contract to stay in the Mile High City.

Shop for official Colorado Rockies fan gear from Majestic, Nike and New Era at Shop.MLB.comThis season Arenado is hitting .325 with 10 home runs, 33 RBI and 30 runs scored.  He is coming off of four straight seasons where he has hit 37 or more home runs and has driven in 130 or more RBI three times in his young seven year career.

Arenado is elite, and his elite play is helping keep the Rockies somewhat relevant in the team's sluggish start to the season.  The Rockies are sitting in fourth place in the NL West at 19-21 and are currently 6.5 games out of first place.  While the Rox are not the Sox, the Rockies came into 2019 with expectations to be competitive, and currently they’re just treading water.

Over the past two weeks, Arenado has carried his team - mainly because his team's pitching has been abysmal.  The Rockies pitching currently has the second-worst ERA in the majors with a 6.79 ERA since April 29th.  During his team’s poor play, Arenado just keeps raking.  On Thursday against the San Francisco Giants, Arenado crushed a 91-mph sinker off of Giants starter Derek Holland into the seats in a 12-11 win over the Giants.

The Rockies are coming to Fenway after a 10-7 win over the San Diego Padres and winning their weekend series.  The Rox will start Kyle Freeland, who comes into this game 2-5 with a 5.84 ERA.  He will make his first career start against Boston.

The Red Sox are red hot, coming off a weekend series sweep of the Mariners, and they’re 8-2 in the last ten games.

Like Arenado, the Red Sox Rafael Devers is the hottest hitter on the planet.  Coming into tonight he has had three straight three-plus hit games.

For Arenado, he’ll continue to focus on his team and his prep work before games.  Arenado comes to Fenway Park as the leader of the Rockies.  Like Todd Helton, Troy Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez before him, Arenado is the face of the Rockies.

The fans at Fenway Park will get to see one of the game's greats right now in this brief two game series.  It’s too bad Arenado didn't signed his long term extension with Boston.  He would look great in a Sox uniform manning the hot corner for the rest of his career.  But for now, the Sox have the red hot Devers, and we’ll be treated to one of the best players in baseball, Nolan Arenado.
