Two-Start Pitchers (5/13 - 5/19)

Like we have done the past few weeks, to open up I will quickly hit on the must start guys for Week 7.  Chris Sale, Noah Syndergaard, Aaron Nola, Jose Berrios and Charlie Morton are all must starts.  There are a handful of pitchers going twice this week who I feel at this point in the season have gained owners’ confidence, and we can also place them here.  Matthew Boyd, Chris Paddack, Jack Flaherty and Shane Bieber.  I would feel confident locking these guys in for Week 7 as well.

Kyle Gibson (LAA, @SEA):

Shop the Mother's Day Collection at MLBshop.comGibson has three quality starts in his last four appearances.  One of the main factors in this nice little run has been his ability to keep missing bats and avoid handing out free passes.  Gibson’s latest start was his best yet, striking out 11 batters over six innings of work.  The Twins’ righty held the Blue Jays to only three baserunners over the dominant outing.  With matchups this week against the Angels and Mariners, I think Gibson makes for an intriguing streaming option if unowned in any leagues.

Yusei Kikuchi (OAK, MIN):

In his first year in the Show, Yusei Kikuchi has been pretty mediocre up to this point.  His last two starts though it seems Kikuchi may have figured something out.  Over the last 14.2 innings pitched he has limited opponents to only two runs.  For a control pitcher he has also shown some punch-out potential with 13 K’s over that same time.  I don’t see any reason he can’t put together two more quality starts this week.

Jerad Eickhoff (MIL, COL):

Eickhoff has been on quite the roll of late, allowing only one run in his last three starts.  He has been very steady since being placed in the rotation for the struggling Nick Pivetta.  The right hander has 31 strikeouts over 30 innings and faces some strikeout heavy teams.  The Brewers have been better of late, but the Rockies have been a pretty weak offense outside of Coors.  I like Eickhoff’s chances this week to turn in two solid starts.

Reynaldo Lopez (CLE, TOR):

I admit, this could be dangerous.  Lopez is always one terrible inning away from ruining your week.  His matchups this week though are very tempting.  Cleveland has yet to start hitting, and Lopez held them to three runs over six innings just one week ago.  Toronto is one of the worst offenses in all of baseball this season.  I could really see a repeat of his six inning 14 K game Lopez had earlier this season against the Tigers.  Like I said earlier, this one is risky.  Proceed with caution.

I will be fading Sonny Gray this week.  His two starts this week are brutal.  The Cubs have been swinging hot bats, and the Dodgers are always tough on opposing pitchers.
