Week 5: Get 'Em In, Get 'Em Out

SHARE:

And just like that we are already into October football.  Time flies when you're having fun, doesn't it?  Except, who is actually having fun?  The NFL sure has had a strange season thus far.  Last week saw names like Adam Thielen, Tom Brady, and Deandre Hopkins all score less, that's right LESS, than five fantasy points each.  Let's shoot for better fortune this week.

Los Angeles Rams @ Seattle Seahawks

  • Get 'Em In
    • Russell Wilson - Jameis Winston just.. Wait, hold on.  No, that is somehow correct.  Okay, Jameis Winston just torched this Rams defense in Los Angeles four days ago.  Now the Rams defense is on a short week with little time to correct the mammoth amount of mistakes made and have to head to Seattle to square off against the Seahawks, specifically Russell Wilson.  Head Coach Pete Carroll just stated that he believes Russ is playing the best football of his career, and I would be hard pressed to disagree.  Finally having some sort of run game, and a legit threat with Tyler Lockett, Russ is rock solid, even on the short week.  Get him in against a Rams defense that is currently in shambles.
  • Get 'Em Out
    • Jared Goff - Goff got paid just before the season started and through four games, albeit a small sample size, the Rams appeared to have been hosed.  Goff has looked nothing like himself through the first month of the season, and even though he threw for 517 yards last week, it was because of his three picks putting the Rams in a hole.  Also, that 517 yards came on 68 pass attempts!  Can his dad-bod even recover quick enough to be able to throw the ball?  Don't love Goff at all this week.

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Carolina Panthers

  • Get 'Em In
    • Leonard Fournette - A week ago I gave you all the green light on Fournette, and while he did not find the endzone for the first time this year, he did have a monster rushing day with 29 carries for 225 yards.  This week he squares of against a 17th ranked Panthers rush defense, but just lost Kawann Short for the season leaving a void in the middle of their defensive front.  I would ride Fournette for the second straight week.
  • Get 'Em Out
    • D.J. Moore - Moore only has four catches through two games with Kyle Allen under center.  Not exactly lighting the world on fire.  With Jacksonville on the docket this week he will either have Jalen Ramsey covering him all game (if he actually plays) or A.J. Bouye, also a tough matchup.  Moore, who was whispered to take a significant leap this year, won't be doing so with Allen under center.

New England Patriots @ Washington Redskin

  •  Get 'Em In
    • Tom Brady - Tom Terrific was less than pleased with his performance against the Buffalo Bills last week, and now it's the Redskins that will have to feel his wrath.  A secondary that has looked lost at times will have little to no shot at slowing down an angry Tom Brady.  The Patriots will easily move to 5-0 on the season, and this week it will come on the strengths of Brady's right shoulder.

    • Adrian Peterson - Game flow, game flow, game flow.  The Patriots will get out in front early and never look back, leaving the feeble Washington offense to chase points through the air.  AP has little to no involvement in the air attack and should best be served on the sidelines of your fantasy team this week, just where he will find himself in Washington by halftime.

Buffalo Bills @ Tennessee Titans

  • Get 'Em In
    • Titans Defense- This is under the assumption Josh Allen will not play.  He is currently still not cleared, as he is still in the concussion protocol, and appears questionable at best.  That would set the stage for Matt Barkley, against who the Titan's defense should have no issues whatsoever.
  • Get 'Em Out
    • John Brown - The Titans defense continues to be difficult against the pass as they have allowed an average of only a measly 233 yards a game.  Couple that with Matt Barkley under center and that would make Brown at best a WR4 this week.

Baltimore Ravens @ Pittsburgh Steelers

  • Get 'Em In
    • James Connor - Connor finally had his 2019 breakout game Monday night.  Now while it was against a lowly team like the Bengals, the Ravens run defense has been quite porous themselves.  Nick Chubb just gashed the Ravens for 165 yards and three touchdowns on Sunday.  I don't expect Connor to match that, but 100 yards and a score is easily within reason.  Just keep an eye on Connor's status throughout the week as he came out of Monday night's game with an ankle injury, but he stated he was fine.
  • Get 'Em Out
    • JuJu Smith-Schuster - All the hype that Juju had received leading into the season has just about completely dissipated.  Without Big Ben, the Steelers appear to have abandoned the downfield passing game from their playbook, and are relying on underneath routes and the running game.  Without Ben, Juju is a WR3 at best.

Arizona Cardinals @ Cincinnati Bengals

  • Get 'Em In
    • Joe Mixon - Mixon has been a complete dud this year, as he was drafted everywhere to be a RB1.  Through the first two weeks he failed to even accumulate 20 yards on the ground, but has managed to reach 60 the past two weeks.  While still far from great, its promising that his yards are building and honestly, his poor outings have a lot to do with game flow.  This week provides a game script that should be much more friendly to him, allowing him to hopefully hit that century mark and endzone for the first time this season.
  • Get 'Em Out
    • Christian Kirk - Surprising to most, Larry Fitzgerald has been the apple of Kyler Murray's eye this year as the ageless wonder keeps climbing the ranks on the All Time Lists.  As for Kirk, he has played second fiddle, and now has an ankle injury significant enough that he may be held out this week.  Avoid Kirk.

Atlanta Falcons @ Houston Texans

  • Get 'Em In
    • Devonte Freeman - It has been a really slow build up for Freeman this season after posting complete duds the first two weeks.  But the past two weeks have featured him a lot in the passing game, rendering him a must play in PPR formats and a borderline RB2 in others.  This week the Falcons face Houston, whose run defense just stifled Christian McCaffrey on the ground, but not in the air.  With Atlanta throwing him the ball, Freeman looks great against a Houston defense who leads the league in giving up catches to running backs.
  • Get 'Em Out
    • Mohamed Sanu - Sanu has caught fire the past few weeks, but that can be attributed to game flow as Atlanta has been horrible, forcing them to chase points.  Last week Sanu caught nine balls for 91 yards, really putting him on the fantasy radar.  But this week is Houston, whose offense has been quite stagnant, mainly because Watson is consistently on the ground.  A stagnant offense for Houston means less chasing points for Atlanta.  Plus, Houston's outside corners are their weakness, not so much in the slot, and that is where Sanu runs the majority of his routes.  Julio and Ridley, green light.  Sanu.  Red.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ New Orleans Saints

  • Get 'Em In
    • Michael Thomas - Even without Brees as his quarterback, Thomas has continued to post strong numbers.  With his skill level, Bridgewater just needs to get the ball in his area and he can get it, which he has been doing.  That is evident by the 14 catches and 149 yards he has posted the two weeks with Bridgewater as his starting quarterback.  This week's matchup for Thomas is easily his best yet on the year.
  • Get 'Em Out
    • Peyton Barber- If the past few weeks are any sign, the Bucs are slowly moving in the direction of Ronald Jones.  Barber's touches have dropped each week.  Now this week he faces a Saints defense that just swallowed Ezekiel Elliott whole.  Avoid Tampa backs, specifically Barber.

Minnesota Vikings @ New York Giants

  • Get 'Em In
    • Adam Thielen -  For the first time all season Thielen failed to reach double digit fantasy points last week.  He did not even come close as he posted a disgusting two fantasy points.  That was against the vaunted Bears defense, though.  The Giants defense is not the Bears.  The complete opposite, to be exact.  Put Thielen's clunker in the rear-view mirror and start him with confidence this week.  Hell, start Diggs too.  Get wild.
  • Get 'Em Out
    • Wayne Gallman -  For all you that spent a ton of your FAAB dollars on Gallman, good for you.  You got yourself one hell of a day last week.  Unfortunately he will now exit stage left.  As I mentioned last week, the Giants opponents in terms of defense get harder and harder, starting this week with Minnesota.  Also, for all of you that went broke to get him, Saquon Barkley also plans to be back next week.  Y'all wasted your money.

Chicago Bears @ Oakland Raiders

  • Get 'Em In
    • Allen Robinson - You could actually argue that Chase Daniel at quarterback may be better than Mitch Trubisky.  Daniel, in my opinion, is one of the top backups in the league.  Take that for what you want, but he should have no issues throwing the ball against this Oakland defense, and Robinson should have no issues catching it.  I like Robinson to cross the goal-line this week too for the first time this season.
    • Josh Jacobs - Jacobs had a respectable 17 carries for 79 yards last week, but that still left fans wanting more considering it came against a weak run defense in the Colts.  Now he has to run against the Bears defense that has only allowed three yards per carry in 2019.  Send Jacobs to your bench.

New York Jets @ Philadelphia Eagles

  • Get 'Em In
    • Jordan Howard - There is still clearly some sort of time share in the Eagles backfield, but you have to ride the hot hand.  Coming off a monster game against the Packers, Howard gets another tantalizing matchup with the Jets.  In a game where the Eagles should have no issue getting ahead and turning it over to the run game, I like Howard as a clear cut Flex Start with the hope he explodes again.
  • Get 'Em Out
    • Robbie Anderson - Anderson's game is simply a downfield threat.  And yes, the Eagles secondary is ranked in the bottom of the league, but as long as Darnold remains sidelined, that game will remain an afterthought.  If you're even still rostering Anderson, do yourself a favor and keep him riding the pine.

Denver Broncos @ Los Angeles Chargers

  • Get 'Em In
    • Melvin Gordon - Lets keep it simple.  He is back, and he starts off with a fantastic matchup.  If you have Gordon there is no reason to sit him this week to "see how he does".  He is going to do just fine against a defense that has been shredded on the ground through four weeks.  Opponents average just a hair under 150 yards a game against Denver.  Get Gordon In.
  • Get 'Em Out
    • Emmanuel Sanders - I am just basing this off of history, and history shows Sanders struggles against the Chargers.  He has not scored a touchdown against them in the last two years, and now appears may be falling second in the pecking order for catches to Courtland Sutton.  Sanders still holds value in fantasy, just not so much this week.
Green Bay Packers @ Dallas Cowboys

  • Get 'Em In
    • Ezekiel Elliott - Everyone keeps talking about the Packers defense like it has been phenomenal.  In all fairness, it's been okay, except against the run.  The last three weeks they have surrendered a whopping 423 rushing yards to their opponents.  Last week was not the week for Dallas to revert to their old conservative ways of giving it to Zeke over and over.  But this week is.  Eat Zeke.
  • Get 'Em Out
    • Dak Prescott - I put a lot of last week's performance by Dak and the Cowboys offense way more on the coaches than I do Dak.  Dak by all accounts was pretty good.  The problem was the game plan he was given was nothing like what he was given the first three weeks.  But I will save my complaining for another day.  With that said, Dak is just fine and will continue to be really good.  But I am tempering expectations this week.  The good part about the Packers defense is their pass defense, as they have allowed no more than 223 passing yards in a game this year.  This week the offense will (successfully) go through Zeke, not Dak.
Odell Beckham Jr. Cleveland Browns Gear
Indianapolis Colts @ Kansas City Chiefs

  • Get 'Em In
    • Jacoby Brissett - Who is the only quarterback this year to throw multiple touchdown passes in all four games?  Jacoby Brissett, that's who.  Now he will face off against the Chiefs, where he will almost certainly be chasing points and doing so against a sub-par defense.  I like Jacoby for 300 more and two scores.
  • Get 'Em Out
    • Sammy Watkins - Watkins receptions have gone down every single week this year from nine, to six, to five, to three.  And while the matchup against the Colts is a good one on paper, I don't like trends.  And the trend he is currently a part of is not one that you should find tantalizing.

Cleveland Browns @ San Francisco 49ers
  • Get 'Em In
    • Nick Chubb - It is starting to appear that this Browns offense will go through Nick Chubb.  He has seen his yardage jump every single week, culminating last week with 165 yards and three scores against what we thought was a pretty good Ravens defense.  Now he gets the 49ers, who shockingly sit atop all run defenses at this moment.  But you can attribute that more to the talent they have faced than their talent themselves.  I would not be afraid at all of this matchup and would roll Chubb out as an RB1.
  • Get 'Em Out
    • Jarvis Landry - This is more so a public service announcement to not get blinded by last weeks output where Landry nearly topped 25 fantasy points.  As noted, this offense is going through Chubb, and Beckham is still Mayfield's number one.  Landry will constantly warrant a flex, just don't expect last week's number as a regular thing.
