All JD Martinez has done in a Red Sox uniform is rake.  That’s what they signed him to do and he has lived up to the hype.

Gear up for the 2020 MLB Season with new gear from Nike2019 Season:  Julio Daniel Martinez has been every bit the slugger he was signed to be in 2018.  Some may have the nerve to say that he had a “down” year in 2019, but if those stats are his down season then I think he is pretty good in the box.  Martinez is a rare bat in today’s game because he can hit for power but can maintain a good batting average.  No one could ever replace David Ortiz in the Boston lineup but JD has done a pretty great job so far.

2019 Key Stat:  138 Strikeouts – A bat as viscous as Martinez’s, you may expect his strikeout numbers to be high as well.  JD’s is able to give quality at-bats that don’t end with a K as much as some of the other power bats across the league.  As long as his strikeouts do not make a meteoric rise you can continue to expect Martinez to keep his batting stats where they have been over the last couple of seasons.

BSS Red Sox Podcast TBNL 2020 OUTLOOK

JD Martinez will be the anchor of the Red Sox lineup in 2020.  The minute he decided to opt-in for the upcoming year, Boston had the dangerous bat in the middle of their lineup that most teams can only dream for.  With Mookie Betts now playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Flaco will be even more important to the team’s offensive success.  I am not worried in the slightest.  His presence in the lineup will allow Bogaerts, Devers, Benny, and newcomer Alex Verdugo to settle into the lineup where they are most comfortable.  Sox fans shouldn’t have anything to worry about when it comes to the big time slugger…well except him opting out after the season but future us can worry about that.
