XFL Week 3 Power Ranking & Matchup Preview and Predictions

SHARE:

The XFL has now had two straight successful weeks. The viewership went down from Week 1, but clearly that was expected because the world was curious as to what the new start-up league would look like.

WEEK 2 PREVIEW
(2-0) HOUSTON ROUGHNECKS VS TAMPA BAY VIPERS (0-2)
RAYMOND JAMES STADIUM

PJ IS IN A LEAGUE OF HIS OWNS: One thing is very clear after two weeks of play, Houston Roughnecks quarterback P.J. Walker is very good.  Walker is slowly becoming an absolute star for the XFL.  Walker has seven touchdowns, which is the most of any player.  He is by far the favorite to be the league's first MVP.  So while Walker has been the main attraction in Houston, his wide receiver Cam Phillips has provided the XFL with a legit lethal duo the sport can build around.  Walker has thrown for 442 yards this season, Phillips has caught 130 yards.  However, Phillips is hurt and may not play.  Look for Khalil Lewis to be the primary target for Walker.  The Roughnecks are 2-0 and will travel to Tampa Bay this week to play the Vipers.  The Vipers are 0-2 and face a tough task in Walker and Phillips.  The Vipers have a lackluster offense that has only scored 12 points through the first two weeks.  On the flip side the Roughnecks offense has scored 68 points.  Earlier in the week, the Vipers acquired wide receiver SJ Green, and he should help the offense.  But it will not be enough this week.  The Roughnecks should win big this week and Walker should look to continue his MVP pace.- Chris

(1-1) DALLAS RENEGADES VS SEATTLE DRAGONS (1-1)
CENTURYLINK FIELD
SEATTLE, WA
2/22/20 5:00 PM

LANDRY JONES RD 2: The Seattle Dragons and Dallas Renegades are both 1-1.  The Dragons will play host this week at CenturyLink Field.  The Dragons are coming off a win last week over the Vipers.  Brandon Silvers will have to keep pace with Renegades Landry Jones, who made his debut last week.  Jones looked good towards the end of the game last week, if he gets rolling, he’ll be a tough order for the Dragons.  Silvers should look to have a better start than last week, where he completed seven passes.  Based off his performance and head coach Jim Zorns’ lackluster offense, expect Dallas to win and big.- Chris

21-17 SEATTLE DRAGONS   PREDICTIONS  DALLAS RENEGADES 42-10

(1-1) NEW YORK GUARDIANS VS ST LOUIS BATTLEHAWKS (1-1)
  THE DOME AT AMERICA’S CENTER
ST. LOUIS, MS
2/23/20 3:00 PM

FOOTBALL RETURNS TP ST. LOUIS: For the first time in almost five years, they’ll be a football game in St. Louis.  The Battlehawks will make their home debut against the New York Guardians. Battlehawks fans have already begun to support their home team.  Television ratings and ticket sales have been phenomenal over the first two weeks of play.  The Guardians have been Jekyll and Hyde the first two weeks.  Head Coach Kevin Gilbride’s offense was good enough to beat the Vipers in Week 1, but last week quarterback Matt McGloin wasn’t good.  McGloin threw two touchdowns last week and was benched during the game.  BattleHawks quarterback Jordan Ta'amu will have the home crowd behind him, and the signal caller will look to electrify the home crowd in the air.  He leads the league with 50 pass completions and the Guardians will have to deal with him and the expected raucous crowd.  The Battlehawks will improve and have the home field advantage the other teams in the league will be envious of.- Chris

(2-0) DC DEFENDERS VS LA WILDCATS (0-2)
DIGNITY HEALTH SPORTS PARK
CARSON, CA
2/23/20 6:00 PM

12 GAUGE RETURNS TO LA: The DC Defenders are looking to go 3-0 this week.  They’ll head to Los Angeles and play the winless Wildcats.  The Defenders are coming off a 27-0 shutout win over the Guardians.  DC has had the best defense in the league and the Wildcats quarterback Josh Johnson will have his hands full.  Johnson will hope the league's best two wide receivers will be enough to break the Defenders stellar D.  Wildcats receiver Nelson Spruce has the most yards in the league.  Spruce excels in the slot and will provide an extremely tough challenge for the Defenders' secondary.  Defenders quarterback Cardale Jones will be a tough challenge again, he’ll continue is push to be the face of the league.- Chris
