XFL Week 4 Power Ranking & Matchup Preview and Predictions

Three weeks into the XFL season, there were two teams that were the clear cream of the crop of the league. The DC Defenders and Houston Roughnecks went into last week undefeated and only one came away 3-0.

WEEK 4 PREVIEW

(1-2) LA WILDCATS VS NEW YORK GUARDIANS (1-2)
METLIFE STADIUM

LA IS ON THE PROWL: After the Wildcats caused the big shakeup in the XFL by defeating the DC Defenders last week.  Head Coach Winston Moss must keep his team playing to their full potential again if they will be looking to keep their winning ways against The Guardians, who have been struggling recently since their Week 1 win against the Vipers.  New York Head Coach Kevin Gilbride’s offense is good, I just don’t think they are good enough to defeat LA.  And I see Josh Johnson light up the scoreboard for a LA win.- James

(1-2) SEATTLE DRAGONS VS ST BATTLEHAWKS (2-1)

WELCOME TO THE JORDAN TA’AMU SHOW: The BattleHawks hosted their first home game last week and the fans came out to support.  It’s very clear that St. Louis has been clamoring for football and the BattleHawks gave them some football.  The team was lead again by quarterback Jordan Ta’amu in their 29-9 stomping of the New York Guardians.  Ta’amu didn’t have eye popping stats last week but he was able to get the ball into the hands of his playmakers on offense to help lead his team to the victory.  Keith Mumphrey and Joe Powell combined for the first kickoff return TD in the history of the XFL courtesy of a reverse and got the BHawks fans fired up.

While Walker has been the cream of the crop amongst the XFL quarterbacks, Ta’amu is starting to make a case for his name to be in the conversation.  The BHawks powerful rushing game that leads the XFL with 157.7 yards per game has allowed them to dominate the games they’ve played.  The defense has been stellar after three weeks as well by only allowing 46 points to opposing offenses.  They only trail behind the Renegades whose defense has allowed fewer points after three weeks.  Watch for running back Christine Michael this week.  He isn’t the number one option in St. Louis, but he did get 13 carries and a touchdown last week.  The BHawks are going to be extremely heavy favorites against the Dragons and expect the rushing game to shred the Dragons defense. - Chris

*GAME OF THE WEEK*

TEXAS SIZE THROW DOWN: The Houston Roughnecks are 3-0 and P.J. Walker is the clear cut league MVP after three weeks.  As each week passes, Walker increases his chances and the likelihood he will return to the NFL.  Walker’s supporting cast of wide receiver Cam Phillips and running back James Butler will continue to catapult them each week.  The Roughnecks defense needs to be better if they hope to remain undefeated this season.  The offense has done it’s part so far, but the defense ranks sixth in the league with allowing 22.7 points per game has to step up.  Houston will still be the team to beat until a team finally stops the Run ’n’ Shoot Walker led offense.

The Roughnecks and the Renegades will lock up in Week 4.  Walker will face the league's best defense and this should serve as a legitimate challenge for the Roughnecks.  Walker and the undefeated Roughnecks will need to continue to rely on Phillips and Butler and play mistake free football.  Their defense will have to contain Renegades QB Landry Jones who is two weeks into his XFL career.  Jones is 2-0 as a starter in the XFL.

The Renegades played the Seattle Dragons last week and trailed at the half 12-6, and it looked like Jones’ squad was headed for a 1-2 start to the season.  Instead, Jones owned the game going 30-of-41 for 271 yards and three touchdowns.  What can’t be overlooked is the two interceptions he threw in the first half which led to the game being so close.  The Renegades got some production from running back Lance Dunbar and tight end Donald Parham.  The Renegades will play the Roughnecks and this game should be the game of the week.  Walker and Jones will trade touchdown blows all game, but the Roughnecks are the team to beat in the league and the Renegades will fall to 2-2.  If you’re a betting fan, this game has the largest over/under at 50.5 this week; take the over. - Chris

(2-1) DC DEFENDERS VS TAMPA BAY VIPERS (0-3)
RAYMOND JAMES STADIUM
TAMPA BAY, FL
3/1/20 7:00PM

DC LOOKING FOR A REBOUND: The Defenders had a chance to solidify themselves as a top team with the Roughnecks with a win last week.  Instead, they rolled into St. Louis and the BattleHawks stomped the Cardale Jones led offense.  Jones didn’t exactly play  well, forcing passes into a lockdown BHawks secondary.  The Defenders are still a balanced team, but they will need a big Week 3 to move to 3-1.  After last week’s embarrassment and 33-9 loss to the Wildcats, look for Jones to have a bounce-back week when the Defenders play the Tampa Bay Vipers, who are the worst defense in the XFL.  The Vipers can’t figure out who’ll be the starting quarterback and should give Quinton Flowers a shot this week against the Defenders.  The Defenders need this week to turn things around, and the Vipers are the team to play to do that.  Vipers head coach Marc Trestman can’t figure out who’ll be the signal caller and leaves Tampa Bay fans wanting more.- Chris
