Zolak: Brady to the New York Giants is ‘In Play”

Eli Manning has officially retired from the NFL and the New York Giants are ready to begin life post-Eli with former first round draft pick Daniel Jones.  Jones is going to be the franchise quarterback under center for the Giants, who spent a first round draft pick for him last season.  But what if you could sign a future Hall of Fame quarterback in Tom Brady and bring him to the biggest stage of them all, New York?

Scott Zolak of 98.5 The Sports Hub tweeted on Monday “NYG”.  He would later elaborate on that during his radio show, Zolak and Betrand, that he received a call from someone not in “Brady’s camp” and that the New York Giants are “in play” for Brady.  Zolak was told to not "sleep on this team," meaning the Giants.

The second the Giants hired former Patriots special teams coach Joe Judge I immediately felt this could be on the table.  I don’t necessarily think it’s a slam dunk to happen, but it makes some sense.  Judge has surrounded himself with a very good assistant coaching staff since being hired.

Since being hired by the Giants, Judge has hired former Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett as Offensive Coordinator, former Browns Head Coach Freddie Kitchens as Tight Ends Coach, former Patriots assistant Bret Bielema as Outside Linebackers Coach, former Patriots and Dolphins Assistant Quarterbacks Coach Jerry Schuplinski is now their quarterbacks coach, and former lineman Marc Colombo as Offensive Line Coach. The moral of the story, Judge is aligning himself with quality football guys who have had experience as a head coach on the collegiate and NFL levels.

The experience on his coaching staff means there'll be solid leadership for the Giants as they begin to move the team forward after two years under Pat Shurmur.

For starters, the first time NFL free agent is going to look to maximize his time on the open market and speak with teams that will allow him to be successful and win for his remaining years as a professional quarterback.  Judge provides Brady with familiarity due to their time in New England.  Besides potentially playing for Mike Vrabel in Tennessee, the New York market makes some sense.

It’s been reported by WEEI’s The Greg Hill Show, that Brady and his wife, Gisele Bundchen, have purchased the stone mansion, in Greenwich, Connecticut.  It should be noted that Greenwich, Connecticut is only 37 miles from New York City.

The Giants shouldn’t hesitate and bring in Brady.  He isn’t going to just sign with a team based off a fit, he will go to a team that allows him the best chance to win another Super Bowl before he walks away from the gridiron.

The NFC East is one of the weakest divisions in football and with Brady, the Giants immediately become favorites to win the division.

The Giants have a premier running back they could feature with Brady in Saquon Barkley.  Brady’s former left tackle Nate Solder is currently in New York and could protect Brady again.  Solder has yet to live up to the contract he signed with the Giants in 2018.  Potentially a new head coach and offensive coordinator could help change that, but that will remain to be seen.

The Giants offensive line is terrible and general manager Dave Gettleman will need to address that in the offseason whether he signs Brady or sticks with his young signal caller.

Brady would be throwing to receiver Golden Tate, Sterling Shepard and tight end Evan Engram.  He arguably would have better weapons right now in New York than he would in New England.

This obviously is all speculation, but it isn’t that far fetched.  The Giants shouldn’t be in the market for the quarterback after investing a Top 10 first round pick on Jones.  Brady is a generational quarterback.  Any team, unless they are truly set at quarterback, should at least kick the tires on Brady.

'Danny Dimes' is the future for the Giants, but if you have the opportunity to bring in TB12 and let Jones develop behind him until Brady retires you do it.  Unless the Giants trade Jones and recoup another first round pick?

The Giants owner John Mara was critical of Brady for his involvement in Deflategate.  The Giants owner was believed to be one of the owners pushing for Brady to be punished in the affair.  Mara called the Brady involvement in Deflategate and his four game appeal at the time as a league matter.

Brady going to the Giants would be a giant (no pun intended) kick in the junk.  The Giants have not only beaten the Patriots twice in the Super Bowl and ended their perfect season, now they could bring the best quarterback in the history in the league to ever play.  Brady in New York wouldn’t feel right and potentially tarnish his legacy for not finishing in New England.

The Brady Watch is in full swing and the speculation on where he will go will continue.  Brady in New York doesn't feel right, and only staying in New England is the what truly is the right move for him and his legacy.
