One Player, Each Team - AFC West Edition

One Player, Each Team heads out West this time around. Lets just jump right into it.

AFC WEST

Denver Broncos - Courtland Sutton

I am the conductor of the Courtland Sutton hype train.  Last season, with bad quarterback play, Sutton still went for over 1,100 yards and pulled in six touchdowns. His numbers took a bump mid-season when the Broncos went from Joe Flacco to Drew Lock, so a full season of Lock should be a positive thing for Sutton and Lock.  He is easily the top target on the Broncos offense and should be drafted as a WR2 with WR1 upside.  If Drew Lock takes the next step, then Courtland Sutton will take the next step, and that step could look like 1,500 yards and ten scores.

Kansas City Chiefs -  Travis Kelce

I just cannot fathom utilizing a first round pick on a rookie.  First round is exactly the price tag on rookie running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire.  There is far too much unknown to pull that trigger.  Then there is of course Mahomes, but also a first round price, and I never spend a first round pick on a quarterback.  And I mean never.  So at this point I default to Travis Kelce. Kelce.  I would spend a late first round pick on him, and he immediately becomes a steal in the second round.  Kelce has been a fantasy monster at the tight end position for the last four years and there is no reason why that should not become a fifth.  He has never played less than 15 games or caught less than 67 balls.  Kelce is as sure a thing as there is.

Las Vegas Raiders - Josh Jacobs

Josh Jacobs needs to be the pick here, and he is in fact worth his price of late first, early second.  Jacobs had a very strong rookie season, accumulating over 1,300 yards from scrimmage and seven scores.  Those numbers come with three missed games also.  If Jacobs can stay on the field for all 16, he has the chance to become a top 5 back in this league.  Raiders also let DeAndre Washington walk out the door, freeing up a lot catches out of the backfield, which just further boosts Jacobs' stock.  Jacobs will undoubtedly be the focal point of this offense, and I would find it to be a major disappointment if Jacobs did not achieve at least 1,500 all purpose yards and double digit scores.  Draft with confidence, and high expectations.

Los Angeles Chargers - Team Defense

There is honestly a couple options here.  First off, of course their is Keenan Allen, where if you're in a position to draft him, you do.  However, with Tyrod Taylor now as his quarterback for the first time, I have some trepidation there.  I am much more comfortable with Allen as a WR2 this year than a WR1.  Then there is Austin Ekeler who SHOULD be the clear cut starter, but I just have this gut feeling you will never see Ekeler consistently get 20 carries a game.  I still view Ekeler as a low RB2/Strong Flex.  Maybe I am wrong, time will tell.  With those question marks, I fall to the Chargers defense.  I say this even with the knowledge of stud safety Derwin James missing the entire season with knee surgery.  The Chargers boast a strong pass rush with newly acquired Linval Joseph to go with Melvin Ingram and, of course, Joey Bosa.  Even without James, the secondary still has names like Chris Harris, Casey Hayward, and Desmond King.  Lastly, they have a rookie tackling machine at linebacker with Kenneth Murray.  This is a very strong unit that deserves to be a number one defense in fantasy.

That wraps up the AFC.  We will kick off the NFC with the East coming up soon!
