Week 7 Fantasy Football Shark Tank

Last week’s rendition of the Fantasy Football Shark Tank had its ups and downs.  One investment did not pan out but the other had gigantic returns.  On this week’s show we will hear the tails of two young players.  One is about to blow up and one is about to burn out.

Antonio Gibson Has His Breakout Game

The rookie running back for the Washington Football Team has already shown flashes of brilliance early in his career.  Even with getting just over half the touches, he has been a fairly reliable RB 2 in fantasy.  This is the week where he explodes onto the fantasy landscape.  Kenyon Drake just ran for 164 yards and scored twice on the road against the Dallas Cowboys.  Speaking of the Cowboys, Dallas has been good against the pass catching running backs.  I know that sounds counterintuitive for a breakout game for a running back, but that has not been Gibson’s role.  If JD McKissic is neutralized than that is just another factor in Gibson’s potential breakout.

Gibson leads the NFL in tackles avoided per carry with .27.  A little bit of an underground stat, but here is the list of players directly beneath him.  Dalvin Cook, Myles Gaskin, Mike Davis, Nick Chubb and Christian McCaffery, all running backs that rank among the tops in the league.  Gibson has all the skills to be a very good back.  He is facing the right opponent and his teammate will be ineffective.  This is the time to go get Gibson before he becomes untouchable on fantasy rosters.

When the Football Team drafted Gibson with the second pick in the third round, he came with a ton of hype.  Super athletic with a receiving background is exactly what you want in a bell cow type of running back.  He delivered over 20 fantasy points against the Ravens in PPR leagues just a few weeks ago.  Dallas’s run defense is ranked 24th in the NFL.  I will invest with 75% confidence.

JuJu Smith-Schuster Will Finish Outside of the Top 50 in WR in .5 pt PPR

The former USC Trojan is not having a great start to the 2020 season.  He hasn’t recorded a 20-point games since Week 1, and if you can remember in that game he scored twice.  JuJu has also failed to record more than four catches since Week 2.  For a slot receiver that has relied so heavily on volume in year’s past this trend is very concerning.  Is he dealing with an injury? Maybe.  He is a frequent member of the Steelers injury report, but has played a lot.  Even being on the field more than any receiver he is not be used like he has been utilized throughout his young career.

Unfortunately for general managers that roster Smith-Schuster he just hasn’t got the opportunities over the past month.  With the emergence of Chase Claypool and the lack of pass plays coming from Pittsburgh it might not be there again this week.  The Steelers are throwing the ball 52.3% of the time which ranks fifth from last in the league.  Last week, the young wide receiver caught only two passes for six yards, and that was without Diontae Johnson.  Well, Johnson returns this week and that does not bode well for JuJu.  Since Antonio Brown was traded away from the Steelers, Smith-Schuster has only recorded more than 84 years ONCE!  If you play JuJu Smith-Schuster this week you will be disappointed in his outside the 50 WR status.

JuJu is uber-talented with so much left in his career.  The 2020 season has been concerning, but it only takes one game to turn things around.  The Week 7 matchup against the Tennessee Titans has sneaky shootout vibes.  It would not shock me to see high scores from both teams which can mean massive passing numbers.  If Ben Roethlisberger chucks it, then JuJu Smith-Schuster can easily rack up the catches.  Because of the shootout possibilities this Sunday, I am OUT.

Make sure you play Antonio Gibson in your league and in your DFS lineup.  And if you roster JuJu Smith-Schuster you can look elsewhere, but I wouldn’t drop or panic-trade him.

Good luck in Week 7.
