Week 8: Get 'Em In, Get 'Em Out

SHARE:

The good, the bad, and the ugly is taking shape across the NFL as we approach the midpoint of the season.  It is becoming clearer who the contenders and pretenders are for both players and teams.  Which should hopefully lead to some more accurate fantasy results. Let's roll.

Pittsburgh Steelers @ Baltimore Ravens
  • Get 'Em In
    • Mark Andrews - The Steelers have been really strong against the tight end position this season, but they also just lost star linebacker Devin Bush for the season with a torn ACL.  That will free up some space in the middle of the field, that Andrews may very well take advantage of come Sunday.  Andrews has been feast or famine this season, being as good as 22 fantasy points, but as bad as 3.  He should find a home somewhere in the middle of both of those outputs.
  • Get 'Em Out
    • Ben Roethlisberger - Ben had a strong start to the season, posting at least 23 points in four games.  The last two games have seen him fall off however.  In Week 6, Ben only produced 12 fantasy points, which is abysmal from your quarterback position.  Last week he put up 19, which would have been more than 20 if he had not thrown three interceptions.  Unfortunately, the skid should hit three weeks against the Ravens on the road.  But fret not, Dallas is on the horizon next week.
Los Angeles Ram @ Miami Dolphins

  • Get 'Em In
    • Mike Gesicki - Gesicki played not second, but third fiddle last week as fellow tight ends Adam Shaheen and Durham Smythe each brought in a touchdown.  Gesicki did not record a single catch while they scored.  That was with Ryan Fitzpatrick though.  The Dolphins made the surprising move to switch to Tua and, as usual, new rookie quarterbacks tend to lean on their tight ends as safety blankets.  And out of the three, Gesicki is the most talented.  The Rams are also allowing opposing tight ends to score 14 fantasy points a game, so chances are one of the Dolphins tight ends has a strong day.  Hopefully it's Gesicki.
  • Get 'Em Out
    • Jared Goff - Do people know the Dolphins have been a Top 10 pass defense this year?  Because they are.  But that in itself is not why I am shying away from Goff.  It is because they have a short week where they played Monday night, flew back to LA, got two days to practice, then flew all the way across the country to Miami.  That truly effects players.  Take the Dolphins with the points.  That's how I feel about this game this weekend.

New York Jets @ Kansas City Chiefs

  • Get 'Em In
    • Le'Veon Bell - Bell can be used as a Flex Play this week.  Yes, for the revenge game factor.  But also for the fact this game should get out of hand QUICKLY allowing the Chiefs to try and let Bell hurt his former employer.  Edwards-Helaire will start, and Edwards-Helaire will get the majority of the work.  Play him too, safely.  But the moment things get ugly, Bell will get his licks in.
  • Get 'Em Out
    • La'Mical Perine - Perine and Gore split the carries evenly last week with 11 each, and Gore rushed for 20 more yards than Perine.  Gore is hurt and Perine may be in line for more work, but game script should really hurt him here.  The Jets will not get that much of a chance to run the ball.

Minnesota Vikings @ Green Bay Packers

  • Get 'Em In
    • Irv Smith - Before the Vikings Week 7 bye week, Irv Smith posted two very solid receiving days.  Smith caught four balls each game and accumulated over 55 yards each game.  He was not able to secure any touchdowns, but four for 55 gives you a fantasy floor of ten points from a position on your fantasy team that's hard to get production from.  If he hits the endzone, it will just be icing on the cake.
  • Get 'Em Out
    • Dan Bailey - Bailey only has one double digit fantasy kicking day on the year.  And as the calendar flips to November I am officially on team "avoid kickers kicking outside." Bailey, Green Bay, cold, rainy.  Pass.

Indianapolis Colts @ Detroit Lions

  • Get 'Em In
    • Philip Rivers - I just know this pick is going to burn me.  It is, I can feel it, yet, here I am saying start Philip Rivers. The most points Rivers had scored all season was 18, all the way back in Week 1, before hanging 31 on the Bengals in Week 6.  But the Lions stink and there are some sold fantasy quarterbacks on a bye week this week.  I feel like you can do a lot worse than Rivers this weekend.  Like come on Rivers, it's the Lions.  THE LIONS.
  • Get 'Em Out
    • TY Hilton - I'm done.  You're done.  We are all done with TY Hilton.  Waiver wire.  DONE.

Las Vegas Raiders @ Cleveland Browns

  • Get 'Em In
    • Kareem Hunt - I actually had Derek Carr listed here originally.  He has been playing well and this is an excellent matchup for him as Cleveland gets torched through the air.  However, the forecast is calling for wet conditions and extremely windy, with gusts up around 40mph.  That will make throwing the ball very difficult.  Instead, I revert to Kareem Hunt.  He gets roughly 20 touches a game as it is, then you add in conditions like this, you could see near 30 between his ground game and easy dump offs from Baker.  Everything may be adding up to an explosion game for Hunt.
  • Get 'Em Out
    • Browns Pass Catchers - With OBJ now out for the season you enter that window of who does Mayfield fall in love with, if any.  I get the feeling that Baker quietly likes not feeling he has to force the ball to Beckham to appease him, and may play better and just spread it around.  This could be a blessing in disguise for him.  But until we know how it plays out, plus the weather conditions, it's best to push Baker back to the bench for now.  Plus, you know, remember the Baker cycle I talked about last week?
Tennessee Titans @ Cincinnati Bengals
  • Get 'Em In
    • AJ Green - It is great to see AJ Green producing again. I had basically written him off a few weeks ago, but I am glad to be wrong on Green.  It may have been just an adjustment period between him and Joe Burrow, and Green getting some game action under him after missing all of last year.  Green has caught 15 balls the past two weeks for 178 yards.  He is once again in a spot to succeed this week against a Titan's defense that is bottom five against the pass.
  • Get 'Em Out
    • Ryan Tannehill - Sure this is an excellent matchup for Tannehill.  But it is also an excellent matchup for Derrick Henry.  I feel this game is just going to be a flow issue for Tannehill.  I just do not see how the Bengals are going to be capable of stopping Henry and Titans should not shy away from that.

New England Patriots @ Buffalo Bills

  • Get 'Em In
    • Bills Defense - The Bills defense has kind of been, surprisingly bad.  I would however give them another shot on Sunday.  The Patriots offense looked awful last Sunday at home against the Niners.  And now they have to go on the road to Buffalo, without Julian Edelman. When Cam does try and pass, who the hell is he going to throw it too?  Tough times have fallen upon and New England.  What a shame huh?
  • Get 'Em Out
    • Josh Allen - A few weeks ago I called Josh Allen a must start until further notice.  Well, here is further notice.  Allen struggling against KC in rainy windy conditions was excusable.  But not scoring against the Jets is not.  We were all frustrated with that performance, besides my opponent... He did throw for over 300 yards, but we need touchdowns which may be hard to come by again on Sunday, again in what is forecasting to be a rainy windy day.  Just do not love Allen this Sunday.

Los Angeles Chargers @ Denver Broncos

  • Get 'Em In
    • Noah Fant - This is simply the hope of volume.  Of course we know Courtland Sutton is out for the year. but now Drew Lock's favorite target in Tim Patrick looks as if he may be a no-go for Sunday.  That basically leaves Lock with Jerry Jeudy and Noah Fant.  I like Fant better in this matchup a week after he saw seven targets.
  • Get 'Em Out
    • Justin Jackson/Joshua Kelley - Jackson and Kelley continue to split the workload evenly for Austin Ekeler.  But, neither of them are really doing anything at all with the opportunities.  Jackson is yet to score this season, and Kelley is averaging a measly need yards a carry and Denver is a top five rush defense.  Excuse my French, but dis ain't it.

San Francisco 49ers @ Seattle Seahawks

  • Get 'Em In
    • Brandon Aiyuk - His last name sounds like Goofy laughing.  I just felt the need to share that. Sorry.  Aiyuk has had three really good fantasy days this season, with one of them being last week in a touch matchup at New England where he racked up 115 yards on six catches.  He goes from that to the league's worst pass defense in Seattle.  Deebo Samuel is hurt again leaving Aiyuk as the top dog.  Aiyuk is a must start Sunday.
  • Get 'Em Out
    • JaMycal Hasty/Jerrick McKinnon - These committee backfields just make me so uncomfortable.  I can't tell you, you can't tell me, Field Yates can't tell us with any more confidence how this plays out.  And not for nothing, Seattle is MUCH better against the run than they are the pass.  Stay away.
New Orleans Bears @ Chicago Bears
  • Get 'Em In
    • Saints Defense - This is not like a must start or anything like that.  But this is a viable streaming option.  Bears offense is terrible.  Foles or Mitch.  Neither of them are moving the ball and their running game is putrid.  The Saints should be good to keep the points down and maybe snag a turnover and a couple sacks.
  • Get 'Em Out
    • David Montgomery - Montgomery has two total touchdowns all season long and has not rushed for more than 82 yards in a game, and that was back in Week 2.  Since then he has not rushed for more than 58 yards in a game.  The Saints are very strong up front and are a Top 6 unit against the run.  I will say this about Montgomery, he should be considered a buy low fantasy option.  He stinks right now.  However he ends the season against seven straight bottom ten run defenses.  Just saying.
Dallas Cowboys @ Philadelphia Eagles
  •  Get 'Em In
    • Carson Wentz/Boston Scott/Richard Rodgers - Seriously, get them all in.  Throw in Travis Fulgham too while we are at it.  I cannot explain anymore how historically bad the Dallas Cowboys defense is.  I have no words.  Wentz could be looking at his best game of the season, Scott should have another good game in Sanders absence, and with Goedert and Ertz still on the IR, the Cowboys will make Richard Rodgers look like George Kittle.  Enjoy.  I won't, lol.
  • Get 'Em Out
    • CeeDee Lamb - Lamb is going to be a superstar.  He is.  And he was well on his way there with Dak Prescott at quarterback.  But with what was Andy Dalton and now Ben DeNucci at quarterback, he cannot be trusted.  It's an absolute shame for a player who was potentially looking at Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ New York Giants
  • Get 'Em In
    • Mike Evans - Evans has been a disappearing act since Week 5.  But AGAIN Chris Godwin is hurt, opening the door back up for Evans in what is a juicy matchup.  Brady has been rolling and one would think he will roll this week with Evans as his top pass catcher.  Evans has only seen four targets total the past two weeks, but should easily exceed that this Week against a tanking Giants team. In the games Evans has already played where Godwin was out, Evans went over 100 yards in two of them.
  • Get 'Em Out
    • Rob Gronkowski - Gronk has been on a tear the last two games.  If I have Gronk I PROBABLY am not benching him and you are not either, PROBABLY.  However, I am inclined to remind you that Gronk scored less in his first five games combined than he did in his last two games combined.  And yes, with Godwin out there is more to go around.  However, the Giants are surprisingly really good against opposing tight ends.  They allow less than 10 fantasy points per game to the position.  That's good for eighth best against.  I am just here to make sure you know that.  Now you do.
