Thanksgiving Fantasy Football Shark Tank

Week 11 had its ups and its downs for the Fantasy Football Shark.  Although he invested in a minority stake in Jameis Winston balling out against the Falcons, Winston didn’t even see the field.  When a player doesn’t even step foot on the gridiron it is tough to get a return on your investment.

Not investing in DJ Chark Jr to perform at a Top 15 level was smart because Chark had a rough go at it in Week 11.  Whether it was him or his quarterback playing terribly it does not matter.  Chark only recorded four receptions for 41 yards.  This week the Shark will be hearing proposals geared around the best football day of the year Thanksgiving.  And since this is the season for giving, the Shark will also hear three proposals.  One from every game that will be played on Thanksgiving.  Let’s eat…I mean, let’s hear these proposals.

Matthew Stafford Is a Top 10 QB in Week 12

The gunslinger from Detroit hasn’t been a perennial top scorer at the position in fantasy football but he has had some big games.  Stafford has thrown three touchdowns three times this season, and has had added two more games with two touchdowns.   On Turkey Day the Detroit Lions will host the Houston Texans in a matchup that could produce a lot of points.  Both teams are essentially out of the playoff hunt, but they are still playing for pride and momentum heading into 2021.  And in the case of the Lions, Head Coach Matt Patricia would like to win some games and save his job.

What do teams typically do when their backs are against the wall?  They throw caution to the wind and chuck the rock all over the place.  With Matt Stafford getting his weapons back you can expect him to be very productive.  The Houston Texan pass defense is nowhere near tops in the league and Matt Stafford should not have a major issue with them.  If you need a quarterback for Week 12, and you can get Staff in your lineup, Thanksgiving is the day to do it.

There are more holes than I have finger to plug in regard to the Thanksgiving Day game involving Matthew Stafford.  Although it appears Kenny Golladay, D’Andre Swift, and Danny Amendola are going to play, we do not know how much they will be hindered by their ailments.  The offensive players are not the only players dealing with injury.  Stafford himself is nursing a thumb injury.  Last week he was unable to drive his offense into the RedZone a single time.  For those reasons I am me on the couch after eating turkey…I’m OUT!

Amari Cooper Balls Out and is a Top 15 WR in Week 12

This may sound ridiculous because both teams are tied for the worst record in the NFC, but when the Dallas Cowboys take on the Washington Football Team it will be for first place in the division.  The Cowboys will be at home and will have Andy Dalton at quarterback.  Both of those bode well for Amari Cooper producing this Thanksgiving.  With Dalton as the signal caller Cooper has seen 22 targets averaging around 80 yards.

Heading into Week 12, the Washington Football Team is the Number 1 ranked defense against wide receivers.  Kendall Fuller has been one of the league’s most effective cornerbacks in 2020, but the Cowboys do a great job moving Cooper around to get him involved.  In Week 7, these two teams faced off in Washington and Cooper recorded seven catches for 80 yards.  If you remember that game, this was when Andy Dalton suffered the horrific concussion and left the game.  Cooper was able to perform then and he will perform again against this team.

When Dallas and Washington played on Thanksgiving in 2018, Amari Cooper went berserk.  He hauled in eight catches for 180 yards and two touchdowns.  Obviously, this Washington defense is completely different, but it still highlights Cooper lighting it up in primetime.  While you are enjoying turkey and all the fixings on Thanksgiving you will also enjoy watching Cooper smash in your fantasy lineup.

Even though the Dallas Cowboys have had a rough go at it so far, but they are still alive in the playoff race due to the weakest conference in sports.  Mike McCarthy rallied the troops coming out of the bye and won a hard-fought game in Minnesota.  I say all that to say that the Cowboys are looking for blood.  If this team is fired up and ready to go, then Amari Cooper will be very much in the game plan.  His role is similar to Jordy Nelson’s when McCarthy was with the Packers.  Fantasy general managers know how productive that role could be.  I will invest with 89% confidence.

Mark Andrews Finishes Outside the Top 10 at TE in Week 12

Baltimore’s tight end has been affected the most by Lamar Jackson’s drastic touchdown regression in 2020.  Rostering Mark Andrews feels something like the Superman at Six Flags.  For those unfamiliar, that is a roller coaster with great highs and massive fall offs.  Andrews is currently the Number 3 ranked tight end in most points per reception leagues.  His high ranking is fantastic, but he has still had five games scoring 6 PPR points or less.

On Thanksgiving night, the Baltimore Ravens will face off against the division rival Pittsburgh Steelers.  If you were here for last week’s episode then you know how good the defense is.  Pittsburgh ranks firts against defending the tight end position.  A lot of that is because Minkah Fitzpatrick is an absolute beast.  He has faced this defense before.  In Week 8 the Ravens played the Steelers at home and Andrews was held to a meager three receptions for 32 yards.

On top of having the most unforgiving matchup for tight ends, Mark Andrews is dealing with a little thigh injury.  He is expected to be healthy and play Thursday so the injury isn’t major, but not being 100% and playing the Steelers will not promise well.  The Steelers are going to key in on Andrews because guys like Hollywood Brown have been a complete non-factor this season.  Oh, and Mark Ingram and JK Dobbins will be out due to COVID-19, so the starting running back is Gus Edwards without his usual rotation mates.  All 22 eyes will be focused on Lamar Jackson and Mark Andrews.

Even though the weapons haven’t been effective other than Andrews in the passing game, they still have enough skill that they will be accounted for.  The Ravens need this win and will be very motivated to win on Thursday night.  Mark Andrews will be a factor.  In 2020, Andrews leads the Ravens in targets, catches, receiving yards and touchdowns.  The defense is certainly scary, but I will still invest with 38% confidence.

If you have Stafford, the Shark would recommend finding another option.  You do not want to stare at a bad score Thursday to Sunday.  If you have Amari Cooper get him back in your lineup, and if you're playing Thanksgiving DFS, try slotting Cooper in the mix.  And you probably do not have a better option than Andrews, so play him with some trepidation.  And most importantly enjoy your Thanksgiving whether you’re with friends, family or just staying in your house because of the awful COVID-19 year.

Be safe, have fun and enjoy!!!
