Week 9 Fantasy Football Shark Tank

SHARE:

Last week's show proved that the Fantasy Football Shark’s investments were pretty good.  Travis Fulgham did not outperform Ty Hill, but he was darn close and looked great doing it.  The Shark was correct on the Boston Scott call, but should have invested even more because Scott did not perform like a top ten pick that he was projected to be.  On this week’s show we will see two proposals featuring high profile wide receivers.

Stefon Diggs Finishes Week 9 as the WR 1

When Diggs was traded to Buffalo the fantasy community was nervous that quarterback Josh Allen would struggle to feed the talented receiver.  Well, so far in 2020 that has not been an issue.  Stefon Diggs has been very productive as the Bills number one wide out.  Through eight weeks Diggs leads the NFL in targets with 79, ranks third in receptions and second in receiving yards.  The man has been the alpha receiver folks thought he could be his whole career.

Over the past five weeks, Stefon Diggs leads the NFL in air yards with 542.  Air yards are a great indicator that the player is getting downfield opportunities.  Overall, it has been a fun year for Diggs.  Week 9 will be no different.  Matter of fact…it will be even more productive.  In week 9 the Buffalo Bills will host the Seattle Seahawks.  The Seahawks bring with them one of the best offenses in football and one of the worst defenses.  More specifically the 32nd pass defense.  Being ranked 32nd in the NFL means you are the absolute worst in the league.

The Seahawks have surrendered the most passing yards in the league and fifth most receiving touchdowns.  And the one receiving statistic that is not on par with the rest is Diggs’s productive campaign is his touchdowns and finding pay dirt can be a bit of a crap shoot within a certain sample size.  Given Stefon’s target share, given his production with those targets and factor in the defense he is playing…a game reminiscent of the 2019 Philadelphia Eagles matchup is possible where Diggs went off for 167 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns.  The over/under for this matchup is 55 according to most books so a shootout is very possible this Sunday.  Shootouts are fantastic for fantasy production.  Make sure Stefon Diggs is in your lineup.

Shark:

Stefon Diggs is a monster.  Stefon Diggs has been a uber producer for most of his career and the trade to Buffalo has been great for him.  The Seahawks passing defense is a far cry from the Legion of Boom days.  They just are not good and since they are traveling across the country and playing a 1 o’clock EST game, I do not see this going well for their unit.  As the fantasy football shark, I do not have much more to say about this proposal.  I will invest with 95% confidence.

Antonio Brown is the Highest Scoring TB WR in PPR formats

The newly acquired wide receiver is one of the greatest pass catchers in the history of the league.  "Tompa" Bay brought him aboard because they still believe that he can be a contributor on the offense.  There is no way the franchise would weather the PR storm that AB brings if he were brought in to for “depth.”  Tom Brady loves himself some Brown.  It was said that Brady has been helping AB get his head on straight since last February.  Even employing the help of lifestyle guru Tony Robbins.

Okay… so maybe Antonio Brown has got his life back on track, but what does that have to do with this weekend?  Well, Brown’s suspension is over, and he will take the field Sunday night against the rival New Orleans Saints.  The last time Antonio Brown played the Saints he went bonkers.  Raking up 185 receiving yards and scoring TWICE! The last time he played in the NFL it was with his current signal caller, Tom Brady.  The two showed a connection immediately.  In only 24 snaps (34% of total offensive snaps) Brown saw eight targets, caught four of them for 56 yards and a beautiful back shoulder touchdown.  He also had a second chance at scoring, so Tom Brady has no issues throwing the pigskin in AB’s direction.

The Buccaneers have a team implied total of 28.75, which ranks fourth highest on the Week 9 slate, for Sunday Night Football so the oddsmakers think that they will score some points.  I mean the NFC South is always producing division shootouts.  TB to AB is ready for liftoff in primetime!

Shark:

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Head Coach Bruce Arians has already made a very vague statement about Antonio Brown’s playing time in his first week back.  Arians said “He’ll have his role – it could be ten plays [or] it could be 35 plays.  I wouldn’t anticipate 60 plays, for sure, but we’ll just see how it goes.”  The key phrase being “see how it goes”, because if Brown is cooking with Brady than he could be left on the field.  But as talented as Antonio Brown is and how connected he seems to be with TB12, there are still a lot of other players that could see the ball.  With Chris Godwin still potentially playing, there are too many different outcomes to say he would be the best WR in fantasy.  I will invest with 55% confidence so I still think he will be the most productive WR in fantasy in Week 9, but I cannot go all in.  However, if Godwin is ruled out of Sunday’s contest, I will invest with 81% confidence.

Will these two-superstar wide receivers shine in Week 9?  We will find out, but I think both should be put into your lineups.  Good luck in Week 9 and as always tune in to next week’s episode of the Fantasy Football Shark Tank.
