Russell Wilson Unhappy in Seattle?

There's a possibility Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is reportedly unhappy in the Emerald City.  On Tuesday, the Pro Bowler expressed frustration by the amount of times he has been hit.  Wilson also expressed a desire to be involved more in the team’s personnel decisions.

"Like any player, you never want to get hit," Wilson told reporters via Zoom.  "That's the reality of playing this position; ask any quarterback who wants to play this game.  But at the same time, it's part of the job and everything else. I think that the reality is that I've definitely been hit.  I've been sacked almost 400 times, so we've got to get better.  I've got to find ways to get better too."

This is the first time Wilson has publicly expressed frustration in Seattle.  These comments come on the heels of the NFL Network reporting that multiple teams have called and inquired on Wilson’s availability.  The Seahawks have wisely said their franchise quarterback is not available.

If Wilson is traded by Seattle, he would account for $39 million in dead-money against their salary cap for 2021.

Teams all around the league could have new quarterbacks leading their offense in 2021.  There are plenty of potential signal callers who might be available.  The comments by Wilson aren’t exactly a reason for Seattle fans to be concerned.  Nonetheless, fans and the team should be somewhat weary.

Since the DeShaun Watson trade demand out of Houston, there has been a possibility of other quarterbacks following suit.  If Wilson is available the New England Patriots should undoubtedly be involved in pursuit.

If Wilson was to be traded, he would need to waive his no-trade clause.  He currently has three years and $140 million left on his extension he signed in 2019.

Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick has high praise for Wilson, saying he is underrated and “I don’t really see anybody better than this player.”

“He can do everything,” Belichick said.  “He’s got obviously great leadership, playmaking skills.  He plays very well in the most critical situations in the game.  His decision making.  Running, passing.  His passing numbers are extraordinary,” said Belichick prior to their regular season matchup.

The Patriots were defeated by the Seahawks this season in a shootout game that was arguably Cam Newton’s best as a Patriot.

It's unusual to hear Wilson making these comments publicly because of the winning he's endured in Seattle.  Is it possible that after seeing what Tom Brady and the Buccaneers accomplished this season Wilson wants more input on building his team?

Brady was able to recruit his former teammate Rob Gronkowski out of retirement, talked the front office into signing Antonio Brown and surrounding him with other legitimate pieces.  Wilson, who has good receivers to throw to, is indirectly saying he wants his front office to get him an offensive line.

Wilson has said that his trade availability is a “Seahawks question” and not for him to discuss.  The chances New England acquires Wilson seem slim to be fair.  If he truly is available then Belichick needs to give up everything to acquire him.

If he lands in New England, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Patriots match-up next season will shatter television records.  Buckle up, this offseason might be one of the most wildest in a long time.
