Today's featured player: Christian Vazquez

Christian Vazquez has been a mainstay in this Red Sox roster for the last few seasons.  After swatting 30 home runs over the past two seasons, as 2021 rolls in, Vazquez will be relied on for not only his defense, but his offense as well

Back of the baseball card:

Position(s): Catcher
Age: 30
Bats: Right / Throws: Right
Height: 5-9 / Weight: 205 lbs.
Nickname: Mini Yadi (I highly doubt anyone calls him that)
How acquired: Drafted in the 9th round of the 2008 Amateur Draft
Contract status: Under team control through 2022

2020 Highlights:

*The backstop slashed .344/.457/.801

*Despite being in the 13th percentile for sprint speed, Vazquez was able to swipe 4 bags.

*To finish 2020, CV batted .333, hit 3 of his 7 homers and drove in 11 runs.

Red Sox Podcast to be Named Player Outlook:

Christian Vazquez has become one of the most well-rounded catchers over the past two seasons.  His statistics have displayed a breakout and his stat cast data backs that up.  His is amongst the top half of players in hard hit rate.

Coming up through the minor leagues, Vazquez was always touted as a very good defensive catcher.  The question was if he would be able to hit.  Just like his nickname (Mini Yadi, again I do not think anyone calls him that) it was hoped that the bat would come around.  It appears that the catcher is improving his bat as the years tack on.

A member of the “best shape of his career” club in 2021, Vazquez seems ready to continue his productive career.
