Boston Bruins Acquire Taylor Hall, Curtis Lazar from the Sabres

Following the blowout loss to the Capitals, the Bruins made a deal to acquire Mike Reilly from the Ottawa Senators.  A few hours later, general manger Don Sweeney went one step further and made a big time hockey trade.

The Bruins acquired forwards Taylor Hall and Curtis Lazar from the Buffalo Sabres.  Boston will send Andres Bjork and a second-round pick to Buffalo in return.

The two-time All-Star and 2017-18 Hart Memorial Trophy winner is a dangerous new weapon for the Bruins.  In 37 games played this season with the struggling Sabres, Hall has two goals and 17 assists.

This is the third time that Hall has been traded during his career.  After being drafted first overall during the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, he’s spent time with New Jersey and The Arizona Coyotes.

Hall’s best season came in 2017-18 when he won the Hart Memorial Trophy for posting 39 goals and 54 assists for 93 points in 76 games with the Devils.

Sweeney and the Bruins were connected to Hall this offseason.  Prior to Hall signing with the Sabres, the 29-year-old floated a rumor he could sign a one-year deal during the offseason.  Ultimately, Hall would follow through on that rumor, but would do so with the Sabres for $8 million.

The other player the Bruins acquired in this deal was Curtis Lazar.  The 26-year-old has five goals and four assists in 33 games this season for Buffalo.

Lazar was hurt during the Sabres rare 6-1 win over the Flyers 11 days ago.  He scored a first period goal and then suffered a lower-body injury.  The Sabres have placed him on the injured reserve, which is a procedural move.  He is was given the week-to-week designation prior to the trade.

Boston has 48 points and they sit fourth in the East division.

Sweeney has been extremely active over his tenure as Bruins general manager.  On Sunday night and in the early hours of Monday morning he made two solid hockey trades.  Say what you want about Sweeney, he just landed three players to help the Bruins for a Stanley Cup push.
