Boston Bruins: Tuukka Rask Earns Shutout, Makes Marvelous Save, Black and Gold Win 5th Straight

Tuukka Rask was impressive on Tuesday helping the Bruins earn their fifth straight win.  The 34-year-old netminder made 32 saves in the 2-0 win over the lowly Buffalo Sabres.

Forward Brad Marchand and defenseman Connor Clifton added a goal a piece.  Despite the Bruins winning their fifth straight game, Coach Bruce Cassidy wants his team to play to their standard as they head into another matchup with Buffalo.

"Hopefully our guys feel the same way that we won the game, got the two points - at this time of the year, that's the most important thing - but understand how we want to play and play to our standard.  I don't think we were there tonight," said Cassidy.

He would also add he wasn’t particularly happy with their third period of play.  The team relied too much on their goaltender versus playing their style of hockey.

"I didn't like our third period at all.  I thought we lost our discipline," said Cassidy.  "We gave up a lot of chances, relied on our goaltender.  I didn't think we played very well.  I didn't think they were great early on, either.  I just thought it was two teams that looked like they've played a lot of hockey recently and execution was off.”

"We got some huge saves from Tuukka, obviously, tonight."

Rask was impressive in the shutout, making some highlight worthy saves in net.   The shutout on Tuesday was his 51st of his career.

This was only his second game back from missing significant time with an upper body injury.  Rask feels good enough to play and wants to get ready for the stretch run.

"It's maintaining the strength and everything else, the health, as much as possible.  Giving it rest when need be and not pushing it too much," said Rask.

As Rask gets into shape for the stretch run, he made a phenomenal save in the first period.

With a 1-0 lead, the Bruins we’re having trouble handling the pressure on the power play being applied by the Sabres.

Rasmus Dahlin fired a shot from the point which rebounded off Rask.  Rasmus Ristolainen was in front of the net to handle the rebound.

Rask would then make a marvelous glove save on Dylan Cozens who attempted to bury the puck on an wide-open net.  The save was one of nine made by Rask in the first period.

The Bruins will look to earn their sixth straight win on Thursday night in Buffalo.
