Boston Red Sox: Bobby Dalbec Returns to the Lineup, Alex Cora Hoping He Can Start Going the Other Way With Pitches

Bobby Dalbec will return to the lineup this afternoon as the Red Sox will look to complete the three game sweep of the Rays.  Dalbec who went 0-for-10 with five strikeouts against the Orioles this past weekend will bat eighth today.

The 25-year-old Dalbec has been on the bench for the last two games and will try to snap his slump against the Rays Ryan Yarbrough.  Manager Alex Cora gave Dalbec two days off to work on things and hopes he can start going the other way with pitches.

“He got two days off to work on a few things and hopefully he can stay on pitches, go the other way and start doing the little things like some of the guys have done the last few days,” said manager Alex Cora.  “He’s going to be out there most of the time.”

Dalbec did a great job going the other way with pitches this spring.  He was impressive this spring, but has yet to find his swing to start this season.  This spring, he hit seven home runs and was among the best players in camp for the Red Sox.

There is extreme upside with Dalbec and there is a possibility of him hitting 30-plus home runs this season.  His power was showcased last season and again this spring.  He was able to seize the first base job during camp and impressed Cora and others in the process.  Dalbec needs to get his first hit of the season and begin to build some confidence and then he can start mashing at Fenway.

The Red Sox are coming off a dramatic win on Tuesday night overcoming three late deficits.  Boston would walk it off in the 12th when J.D. Martinez sent a towering shot over the head of the diving Randy Arozarena.  The Rays superstar was able to make a dramatic catch on Monday robbing Hunter Renfroe for extra bases.  He was unable to make the play and Boston would win 6-5.
