Boston Red Sox: Eduardo Rodriguez Improves to 3-0, Wants to Ride in the Laundry Cart

Red Sox left-handed Eduardo Rodriguez earned his third win of the season on Tuesday.  Boston went on to defeat the visiting Toronto Blue Jays 4-2 in the first game of the brief two-game series.

Rodriguez, who was making his first appearance on the mound at Fenway Park since Sept. 29, 2019, was solid on the mound.  He allowed two earned runs on three hits while striking out six in 6+ innings.

His only two blemishes on the night were the home runs to Bo Bichette in the fourth inning and Randal Grichuk in the seventh.

"He (Bichette) destroyed that ball, to be honest with you.  When he got to first base I said, 'bro, how'd you hit the ball that hard?,” commented Rodriguez following the game.

Rodriguez would also come back out for the seventh inning, he surrendered a solo shot to Grichuk.  The Blue Jays outfielder dumped the slider deep into the Monster Seats.

Manager Alex Cora removed Rodriguez from the game.  E-Rod threw 90 pitches on total.  He left the game with a 4-2 lead, relievers Matt Andriese, Adam Ottavino and Matt Barnes would hold the lead.

Following the game, Rodriguez said “everything was working right how I wanted.  Now it's just attacking more hitters.”

When asked about his first start at Fenway since 2019 he added, “I was really excited as soon as I went out there.  It was amazing to be back out here.  That was something really special for me.”

He also commented on the laundry cart in the dugout, saying he wants a ride in there like the hitters.  Rodriguez wants a ride in the cart once he gets his first hit.  He is 0-for-20 in his career at the plate.  In addition, he feels that a laundry cart ride should happen for complete games and no-hitters.

"If someone throws a no-hitter or a complete game.  Or if I get my base hit, I'm gonna get a ride in that cart,” said Rodriguez.

According to the Twitter handle Red Sox Notes, Boston is 48-12 (.800) in Eduardo Rodriguez’s starts since the beginning of 2018.

The Red Sox are 17-3 in the last 20, having won each of the last seven.  Boston improved to 12-6 on the season, and they own the best record in the American League.
