Boston Red Sox: Jarren Duran Plays Left Field for the WooSox Today, Receives Praise From Larry Lucchino

The struggling Franchy Cordero has all eyes on Jarren Duran down in Worcester.  Duran has been generating buzz since last season and fans are anxiously awaiting his arrival in Boston.

The 24-year-old has all the tools, he has speed, versatility in the outfield and some pop in his bat.  MLB Pipeline wrote, “with the tools, he’s just one of those special guys.  You know if it all comes together, you’ve got a superstar.”

Former president/CEO of the Red Sox, Larry Lucchino had ringing endorsement of Duran.

"He looks a little like the perfect specimen for baseball.  He cries out, ‘outfielder,’ and he’s got all the tools,” said Lucchino.

The former Red Sox CEO watched Duran in the take batting practice for the WooSox a few days ago.

Last week at the alternate site, Duran hit two home runs against the Mets minor-league affiliate.  The former seventh-round pick out of Long Beach State has been swinging a big stick for over a year now.

He carried that momentum into the Puerto Rican Winter League where he was the LBPRC Final Series MVP.   He batted .333 with two home runs, two doubles, and driving in six runs.

He was electric during the Caribbean Series, throughout the series he had retweetable highlights the entire series.

Fast-forward back to present day,  Duran was photographed in left field for the WooSox on Monday.

With the struggles of Cordero, giving Duran regular reps in left field could mean he’s close to coming to Fenway Park.  Cordero has been abysmal in his last eight games going 1-for 22 with 14 strikeouts.

Cordero has the support of his manager Alex Cora, but the pressure is starting to mount on his outfielder.  “You’ve got to keep coaching the player and giving him confidence,” Cora said.

Cora doesn’t think sending Cordero to the alternative site makes any sense.   “Right now, people might say, ‘Let’s send him down to get competitive at-bats.’   Where?   Where are the competitive at-bats?” Cora said.
