Current New England Patriots Players React to Mac Jones Being Drafted at No. 15

The New England Patriots added a quarterback on Thursday night, and it wasn’t Jimmy Garoppolo.  Instead, Head Coach Bill Belichick flipped the script and drafted a quarterback in the first round.

After two hours of waiting, Mac Jones’ phone would ring and it was the Patriots on the other end.

“This is what I wanted all along and I can’t wait to play for really the greatest franchise in NFL history,” Jones said in an interview to NFL Network’s Melissa Stark.  “So it’s going to be a lot of fun and we’re looking forward to it.”

Jones isn’t the only one looking forward to him joining the Patriots.  His new teammates took to social media and expressed their excitement for the new quarterback.

Patriots running back Damien Harris played with Jones at Alabama, now they’ll team up in Foxboro.  Prior to the Jones selection, Harris tweeted the big emoji eyes.  Once he was officially named a Patriot, he would tweet an Alabama gif with “LFG” as the caption.

New Patriots cornerback Jalen Mills tweeted at Jones saying, “Welcome let’s get to work.” Mills signed with the Patriots during their free agent frenzy.  He signed a four-year, $23.9 million deal and adds much needed depth to the secondary.

Linebacker Josh Uche also took to Twitter and gave a shoutout to Jones.  Uche kept it simple in his tweet by saying “Let’s Go” and added the smiley face with sunglasses.

Jones will have a ton of pressure on him as he is the presumed future face of the Patriots.  He will go from one of the greatest college coaches of all-time in Nick Saban to the best NFL coach in Belichick.

“I’m looking forward to taking Coach Belichick’s coaching, and it’s gonna be a lot of fun,” Jones told Stark.

Over the coming days, more of his teammates will comment on Jones coming to New England.  Ultimately, it’s what he does on the field and how he represents himself off the field that will matter.

“It’s not where you get picked.  It’s what you do with the opportunity.  That’s what Nick Saban told me.  I’m just going to follow that,” Jones said.  “Along the way a lot of people are going to tell you, you can’t do something.  You just got to keep on pushing.  I’m looking forward to playing in the NFL.”
