Curse of the King

SHARE:

For 86 long, cold, difficult years the Red Sox were the victims of the Curse of the Bambino.  Apparently selling Babe Ruth to fund a play brought extremely bad juju to the franchise.  Thank the heavens that in 2004 the band of “idiots” broke that curse and finally won a World Series Championship.  But has a new curse been placed?

Last week, LeBron James was officially named partial owner of the Boston Red Sox.  According to msc.com, James will “weigh in” on management decisions.  So that means LeBron isn’t just part owner in name, but he will have a say in some Red Sox decisions.  Only time will truly tell if King James will be a positive to this ownership group.

Ever since the announcement was made the Sox went on to lose three games in a row to possibly the worst team in the big leagues.  The fashion that they dropped the first two games was a smorgasbord of bad luck.  The third game, well they flat got their rear ends kicked.

Watching these putrid games got me thinking.  Is there a new curse amongst us?  Are the Red Sox entering the Curse of the King era?

James’s entire career was marked by his rivalries with the Boston Celtics.  Whether he was playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers or the Miami Heat, James was the final boss the Celtics had to get past.  And now he is playing for the C’s biggest rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers.  Not only is LeBron playing for the hated Lakers, he is the catalyst for the Lakers franchise to potentially soar past the Celtics in terms of championships.  Due to the 2021 title win, the Lakers now have tied the historical Celtics organization with 17 titles.  By the time LeBron hangs up the sneakers, he could have the Lakers sitting atop the championship pantheon.

Not only has James been a thorn in the side of Celtics fans, but his fandom has also irked the fans of Red Sox Nation.  James is a self-proclaimed Yankees fan.  And he is often found wearing the iconic NY navy blue cap.  Now he is part owner of the Red Sox.  Which I probably do not have to remind you that the Yankees and the Red Sox are part of the biggest and most hated rivalry in all of sports.  Is King James trying to destroy the Sox from the inside?

I’m sure I am just acting crazy.  There probably is no curse.  James is not here to sink the Sox franchise.  But I mean, can you blame me for losing my marbles a bit?  The Red Sox were just swept by the Quad A Baltimore Orioles.
