This is the Jaylen Brown the Celtics Need

Jaylen Brown played a fantastic basketball game against the Knicks Wednesday night.  He completely filled that stat sheet.  New York did not have an answer for Brown and, to be honest, that is that kind of player the Boston Celtics need to win games.

The forward played big-time minutes.  Giving the squad 36 hard fought minutes is not easy, but he provided so much for Boston while he was on the court.  Maybe the most important thing Brown provided cannot be found on  That is taking some of the load off of Jayson Tatum.   Tatum plays way too much iso ball, and having Jaylen go off like he did is exactly what the C’s need for the home stretch and the post season.

Averaging just a smidge over 24 points per contest, Brown had failed to reach even 20 points three out his last seven.  Well, against the New York Knicks he exploded for 32 points.  I will admit he did not shoot the ball particularly well, but Brown was super aggressive.  Something you certainly like to see out of one of the team’s best players.

Brown attempted 26 field goals, 13 from 3-point land, and even got to the charity stripe seven times.  Now if he shot the ball better from the line, he would have been even more productive.  That is worth monitoring, because the Celtics will need clutch free throws if they are going to make a run.

What I truly love to see from Jaylen is the defensive statistics.  In April, the Celtic’s forward has already compiled seven defensive stats.  That includes a block in three straight games.  I have always believed that Brown could be a great defender so whenever it comes out in his game on the court it is an absolute pleasure to see.  I understand defense is typically an effort thing.  But it makes the Celtics team so much more dangerous when Brown is flashing his defensive prowess.

The 2020-2021 season has had what feels like a million ups and downs.  I think I can speak for Celtics fans when I say that Jaylen Brown’s game against the Knicks was a breath of fresh air.  Jaylen Brown has a massive say in how far this team will go.  If the Boston Celtic’s are going to make any noise the rest of the season or in the playoffs than Brown has to play like he did against the New York Knicks.
