Boston Bruins Drop Game 1, Media Asks Tuukka Rask About Future Following the Game

The Boston Bruins dropped Game 1 of their best-of-seven game series against the Capitals on Saturday night 3-2.

The loss came in overtime after Nic Dowd scored the game winner 4:41 into overtime.  Dowd tipped in T.J. Oshie’s shot and it found its way past Tuukka Rask into the net.

His goal, which initially hit Rask in the chest fell and wiggled through his pads.  “I think it was going over my head or at my head and then it hit a stick, hit my chest and somehow ended up in the net,” said Rask.  “I think I probably bumped it into my own net.”

Rask wasn’t bad in Game 1,  He gave up two goals prior to the game winner.  One goal was due to a Charlie McAvoy broken stick in the offensive zone that turned into an odd man rush.

The other was a Brendan Dillon point shot that deflected off Jeremy Lauzon’s stick on the way to the back of the net.

Rask wasn’t the definition of a brick wall on Saturday.  The Capitals made some good use of their opportunities and capitalized (no-pun intended) on tip-ins.

Despite the tough opening game loss, the media diverted their questions to Rask about his playing future.

“I haven’t really thought about that. I just try to go game-by-game, series-by-series,” said Rask.

The 34-year-old goaltender’s contract expired following the season.  “I’ll see what the future brings after that.  Obviously, there’s going to be some decisions to be made, but we’ll do that when the time is right.  Right now I’m not thinking about that.”

Whatever Rask decides on doing following the series, fans and media will know in the near future.  The questions following his future immediately following an overtime loss doesn’t feel like the time or place.

However, due to Rask missing time during the regular season and the emergence of Jeremy Swayman, these types of questions may continue.

Other members of the media pushed the questioning about his future and Rask would provide a cryptic answer.

“I’m not going to answer that right now.  I’ll talk to you after the season,” Rask said.  “You’ll find out.”

With Taylor Hall and David Krejci set to become free agents as well, the money for Rask maybe allocated elsewhere.  Until then, the Bruins have more work to do against the Capitals with the puck dropping for Game 2 on Monday night.
