Washington Capitals Captain Alex Ovechkin Was a Little Salty with his Team Following the Double-Overtime Loss to the Bruins

There’s one thing Bruins fans will probably never see from Captain Patrice Bergeron; him publicly calling out or showing up his teammates.

Capitals Captain Alex Ovechkin, on the other hand, has a different reputation around the league.  Following Craig Smith’s wrap-around the net game winner in double-OT, Ovechkin barked at his teammates from the bench in disgust following the loss.

Smith’s game winner wasn’t an all-time highlight.  He out-hustled Capitals Justin Schultz and goalie Ilya Samsonov for the puck.  After getting the biscuit, Smith wrapped around the net, sending the puck home for the win.

Following the goal, Ovechkin would snap his stick over the boards, breaking it.  Ovechkin had a John Lackey-type moment showing up his teammates.  Lackey would do this quite often on the mound.  He would throw his hands up in the air when a player would make a bad play in the field.

Ovechkin wasn’t available on Zoom for an interview following the game.  Capitals Coach Peter Laviolette commented on the play, “It looked like one of them went for ‘leave it,’ and one went for an outlet pass.”

“There was just a little bit of a miscommunication.  It was a tough break the way the game ended. I thought Sammy played a hell of a game for us,” said Laviolette.

Ovechkin scored a goal earlier in the game, which was his 800th career goal including the playoffs.  The goal wasn’t enough as the Bruins would earn a 3-2 win in double-OT and now lead the series.
