Boston Red Sox: Jarren Duran Crushes Two Home Runs for the WooSox on Tuesday

The Red Sox need a leadoff hitter, someone to set the tone at the top of the lineup for arguably baseball’s best lineup. The club has experimented with Kiké Hernandez, Marwin Gonzalez and Danny Santana from the lead off spot. All three have been a disappointment from the no. 1 spot in the order.

Boston has struggled to find consistent production from the top of the lineup. So, where can the organization look next to potentially fix that problem?

Top prospect Jarren Duran has been on fire at the plate for the WooSox. On Tuesday, Duran had a multi-home run game giving him 15 home runs on the season.

The Red Sox have been patient with Duran and are waiting for the right moment to activate him.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora likes what he sees in Duran but cautions everyone to be patient.

“We are very pleased with his progress and the way he’s been playing,” Cora told reporters back on June 22. “I know people get excited.”

Cora would also point out that Duran needs to “fine tune” some things prior to his promotion to the big leagues.

“There’s more than just hitting home runs,” he explained. “If it’s tomorrow, or in a month, or whatever, I know we know he can help us. But there’s a few things still – he needs to keep working on it.”

Red Sox director of played development Brian Abraham spoke about the fine-tuning Duran needs to do.

“Obviously, results, when you get to the higher levels, are important. I think that’s just the reality of the game,” Abraham said. “But, I think ultimately there are other things we look at. Fine-tuning various skills. Getting him comfortable in uncomfortable situations so when he does have that opportunity to go up to the major leagues, that he’s able to go up there, stay, and make an impact on a major league club that’s at the top of the division and in the thick of a race.”

Red Sox fans will need to continue to be patient, Duran will be along soon enough. Until then, Boston has a plan for their top prospect.
