Boston Red Sox Fans to Get a Heavy Dose of Jarren Duran During the Yankees Series?

By now the baseball world knows that the Red Sox have called up top prospect Jarren Duran. On Wednesday, Duran was scheduled to be with the WooSox for a double header but he was pulled from the lineup.

Speculation began to surface on social media that Duran could be called up. That speculation has been going on since Duran was left off Team USA’s baseball team that’s heading to Tokyo for the Olympics.

The time has finally come for the Red Sox to see what they have in Duran at the big league level. This season with the WooSox, Duran has hit .270 with 15 home runs and 32 RBIs with 12 stolen bases through 46 games.

Duran’s callus coincides with Marwin Gonzalez being banged up and expected to be placed on the injured list. In addition to calling up Duran, the Red Sox will need to make a corresponding move off with the 40-man roster.

Now that Duran will be joining the Red Sox in New York, fans could see a heavy dose of Duran during the series. The Yankees have yet to announce their rotation for the second half of the season. If the Yankees feature their lefty starters out of the gate to begin the second half, Boston will likely let Duran play.

Duran has feasted on left-handed pitching in the minor leagues this season. In 56 at-bats against lefties this season, Duran is hitting .321 with three home runs and nine RBIs with a slash line of .400/.554/.954. The 24-year-old outfielder gets on base and that’s all the Red Sox need him to do once he gets into his first big league game.

Even though he’s made better contact against lefties, Duran has generated all his power against right-handed pitching. He has 12 home runs against righties in the minors this season. With the short porch in New York, Duran could make some noise this weekend against a desperate Yankees team.

The excitement for Duran is at an all-time high, the left-handed hitting prospect has earned this opportunity. There could be some struggles against big league pitching and he is no longer hitting at Polar Park where he mashed at the dish. Duran hit .313 with a .400/.708/1.108 OPS, 10 homers, six doubles, one triple, 19 runs and 23 RBIs in 24 games at Polar Park. He has only hit .226 on the road, that should be something to watch as he transitions to the next level.
